York CC Awarded First-Class Status
Tuesday the 27th November will go down as a memorable day in the history of York Cricket Club as it was confirmed that First Class Cricket will be coming to Clifton Park in the Summer of 2019.
York will host a four day Specsavers County Championship game between Yorkshire CCC and newly promoted Warwickshire CCC from Monday 17th June to Thursday 20th June.
“York have done such a fantastic job for us at Second XI level and with the Diamonds, and the quality of their pitches and infrastructure is excellent,” said Yorkshire CEO Mark Arthur. “We thought it was a great opportunity to take a game there.
“For our membership, York is our second largest catchment area outside Leeds. The fact it is a one off will capture the imagination of public.
“It is a venue definitely capable of hosting a first-class cricket match.
“They are going to receive a grant from the ECB towards a new electronic scoreboard, covers and sight screens. We have made a commitment that we will go there for at least three years. From 2020 onwards, we will take one or two List A matches to York. The ECB are supporting the development of out-grounds.
“When you talk to people about hosting a County Championship match, their excitement is something to behold. I think the City of York will really get behind the event.”
Preparations for the game are well underway with 2,000 temporary seats and a 30 table Marquee already in the pipeline. Tickets for the match will go on sale through The Yorkshire CCC Ticket Office in the New Year.
Transport links to York through the rail network are Excellent, and the club can provide on site car parking for those coming in a car for £5 a day.
Although seating will be available all round the ground, spectators will be welcome to bring their own chairs if they wish.
Sponsorship packages and marquee hospitality tables for the first three days are on sale now. If you want to enjoy the game with clients and friends in the pitch side marquee, with food and drink throughout the days play, please get in touch with Secretary Nick Kay – 07815 809596 or kaybo79@hotmail.com
