At York CC we are a leading part of the revolution that is women’s cricket, and the number of players we have has drastically increased over the last few years. We recognise how quickly the game is changing and we are committed to ensuring the women’s game is as important, prominent and dynamic as the mens. Our ethos is that all girls are welcome to play cricket with us, regardless of experience. We also cater for the elite player, and field players every weekend with lots of county cricket experience.
We play cricket in the Yorkshire Premier League North, playing a combination of 20 and 30 over cricket. All our matches are coloured clothing and pink balls. Matches are usually on Sundays, though we sometimes play on a midweek evening as well. We want to win games of cricket, however more important to us is that all our women and girls foster a love for the game and keep returning to York CC to play.
This year we are starting our Roses programme, bringing younger girls to the game. These sessions will be at 5 on a Wednesday evening, and some of the older players will be acting as coaches.
We practice hard, and we make it a lot of fun. We want every player – regardless of her age – to leave our practice sessions smiling and knowing that they have improved. Our coaches design sessions to make them work for the female player, with lots of fielding, specific batting shots and clear bowling routines.
Practice sessions are at Clifton Park on a Wednesday evening from 23 April:-
